How to behave if an immigration agent stops you.

You have the same rights as with other agents: you could choose to remain silent after informing the officer or you could calmly walk away if you are told you are free to go.  You do not have to answer question about where you were born; if you are a US citizen; or how you entered the country. If you aren’t a US citizen and the immigration officer requests immigration papers you must show them if you are carrying them with you. It is recommended to carry your immigration documents with you if you are over 18. If you do not have immigration papers, tell the officer you choose to remain silent. Do not show fake documents or lie to the officer about your citizenship.
